OH DEAR FRIENDS - this is a MUST MUST MUST. You’ll feel all giddy and cute throughout the entire shebang and immediately call your family imploring them to watch.
Carl Reiner, the old school comedian, producer, blah blah blah takes us on a journey to explore the concept of longevity. He and the film makers aim to tackle the age-old question: why is it that some people outlive others? And, why is it that if you’re not in the obituary, should you eat breakfast! Get it?
Through interviewing a few of his closest and most famous entertainment friends, we see that the most important factor contributing to longer life is dun dun dun, your MUTHERFKN ATTITUDE!! Yes you little devil. The more you lean into creation and motion, the better chances you have at a long life!
It’s super cute and obviously funny, (comedians ARE VERY FUNNY), and I really think you’d like it! It’s a Tuesday and I’m at a loss for words - I say google the rest.

So perhaps I’m alone in this but I didn’t know who Elaine Stritch was until I saw this doc. Oh Elaine. What a LEGEND.
Trust a bitch and watch this. Like on a Sunday or Monday when you’re wildly unwell from the weekend shenanigans and drip-sweating vodka soda. *Its been 3 years since I watched this and I no longer find myself unwell on Mondays. Rejoice!
Elaine is unapologetically one of us. She’s lived many lives and here we are baring witness to it all.
For some backstory, Elaine is an incredibly famous broadway star and actress known for both her talent and semi-erratic, mostly hysterical personality. She dabbled in alcoholism but is mainly just a bad-ass bitch with a real understanding of life. Why mention the alcoholism you classless bitch, Danielle?!?!? Because, we can all relate to having vices, regardless of the scale and seeing her endure is inspiring.
We follow her as she preps for one of her final shows and are given an intimate look into the mind and life of this troubled star. SPOILER ALERT!!!!! She’s just like all of us…that is, stressed, eager to please, achievement oriented and so much more.
Wait, one more spoiler alert; she hates pants and refuses to wear them. I meannnnnnnnn - the bitch is 88!!!! QUEEN.

If you like dance (yes, at large), to be inspired, or general sex appeal, this doc is for you.
You know that Hozier song “Take Me to Church?” You love it? PERF. There’s a very erotic, I mean beautiful music video that stars Sergei Polunin - the leading MA-AN (!!! slurp) in this doc.
Sergei is a Ukranian-born ballet prodigy with a fascinating backstory. He had a super strict upbringing ensuring ballet was his sole focus. He showed promise at a young age so his family leaned the fuck in and bet all of their cards on his success.
As he developed and rose through the ranks of the ballet world, he adopted this sort of bad boy thing. He draped himself in tats and dabbled in uppers among a few other things. Cool, huh??
This isn’t a story about any dramatic fall out or demise - Sergei is no doubt one of the best dancers. This is a story of athleticism, determination, mental health, and family. I dono I’m losing track here but as they say, trust a bitch.

Immediate and not so original musings after finishing this doc. Chasing approval whether laughs, compliments, physical touch, or d all of the above, brings temporary fulfillment. Needing external reactions to satiate internal discomforts leads to a constant chase keeping you stuck in the rat race of life.
CLEARLY THIS BITCH ATE AN EDIBLE BEFORE!!
Whatever. This documentary was brilliantly pieced together with Robin telling us his story through old interviews. We get to know a few other sides of him but the most important thing we learn - at least in my 700 followers (ayyy) opinion - is that he did not kill himself out of depression or mania. He had Lewy Body Dementia which is an aggressive and unapologetic form of Dimentia. For a brilliant thinker and performer, he suddenly and quickly lost his ability to use his mind.
We hear from the people he inspired and at the end of it, feel incredibly proud to have known about his work.
I know you’ll watch this so you’re welcome!

Admittedly, I didn’t know who Hedy was off the bat (AND NO THIS IS NOT A TREND), but you’ll come to be highly intrigued by this brilliant woman.
She has a longggggg history that I won’t even attempt to capture in my b+ writing style but she’s a real treat to observe.
Her journey starts at a young age having been a stunner from day 1. She attracts the Hollywood type and at 16 stars in a highly sexualized film that launches her Hollywood career but stifles her ability to steer into any other genres.
While attracted to the Hollywood life, Hedy much prefers “inventing” over anything else. Inventing? Huh? Yes - that’s right. This bitch is like really fucking smart and created the foundation for modern day wifi! Mhmmmm keep reading.
Long story short - Hedy’s life is a tricky balance of making money in an industry she basically hates and finding the time to create. Oh? You mean to say that this is classic story of doing something to pay the bills that makes you want to DIE while really wishing you were doing something else? Oh, yes yes that sounds familiar I can get into this.
Am I rambling? Making no sense? Well whatever, just watch this stunner float through life in a very relatable way.

Ooh yes. Ohhhh yes yes yes yes yes yes you must watch.
Franca is the Italian Anna Wintour - need I say more? OKAY FINE I WILL!!
So - her fucking GORGEOUS son decides to make a documentary about his cool mom and we bare witness to their adorably familiar mother-child relationship. We learn about her upbringing, her determination to succeed, and her many accomplishments.
I was most inspired by that damn humor - it’s just SO GOOD. Especially when it came to making fun of her son.
Franca was actually diagnosed with cancer I believe right as production wrapped on this so she was able to see the film which is heart warming. I strongly recommend watching if you’re at all interested in fashion, and successful people full of class and SASS. Poetic ayyyyyy

Where to start.
This is a pretty dark documentary - the premise: a sister’s journey into the storage unit that holds all of her deceased sisters things.
Hope Litoff’s sister was a well-respected artist and creator throughout Manhattan. In addition, she was severely impacted by mental illness and in 2014, she ended her life.
When she passed - all of her art, belongings, diary entries and everything else - were boxed up and put into a storage unit. Until now, no one was ready to deal with it.
This is a look back at Ruth’s complicated life full of highs, lows, and a fuck ton of medication. One shot that sticks with me is of the table of medications Ruth took over the years. As the thumbnail for this review, you’ll get the idea but it is absolutely insane. Tantalized by it all and a former addict herself, Hope loses her grip on her own sobriety and falls off the wagon in reliving the memories.
While a somber subject matter, this documentary is a vivid look at the world of mental illness, art, NYC, and family. Buckle up for some tears!

So this is an interesting one….kinda
Olivier Rousteing is 30 years old and the creative director at Balmain. Who cares I agree but, docs are coming in slow these days so I’ll take it.
Going into this blind, I figured it was an autobiographical piece about a young fashionnova but it ain’t. It’s about Olivier’s journey into identifying and potentially meeting his biological parents. He was put up for adoption at birth and never knew his true origins. His adoptive family and most of his surrounding community are white and he clearly is/was not. This, coupled with being rejected from birth, has wounded and haunted him for years.
The doc doesn’t go deep but he does. You can tell he isn’t used to sharing his insides and it’s really sweet. His reality is twisted but he’ll get there. Plus, his lips are mesmerizing so maybe you’ll get a kick outta that. OH, and there’s famous people in it. You in?

shit. Talk about my spirit animal. Once again I didn’t know who Gilda was until I saw this film - awkward, I know.
Gilda is real famous. She was in the original 7-person cast of Saturday Night Live and forever known for her manyyyyy characters and energy. In watching this doc, you’ll feel like Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler and the likes sort of stole her work. I mean they do both admit to doing so during their interviews so I guess we’re all friends here.
Gilda was fire - both on stage and in her personal life and this doc does a great job capturing it all. Through her short life she accomplished a ton and left a lasting mark on the world of comedy.
If you like comedy or autobiographical docs, you’ll most certainly enjoy this!

This is an unassuming, beautifully filmed documentary that follows Dina & Scott - a soon-to-be married couple - as they make their way to the big day.
This isn’t your typical love story - Dina and Scott are on the Aspberger spectrum, making their story and this film a bit different.
The film itself is gorgeous showcasing a ton of scenic and dreamy camera shots. Dina herself is a literal GEM. This bitch wouldn’t know a filter if it was custom made for her. She’s adorably honest, straight forward, and shameless. She’s also wildly horny and that’s like an interesting little plot twist for their honeymoon thing.
Any who - it won a bunch of shit at Sundance and I think it’s really cute so watch it.

If you like fashion, vulgarity, the arts and pretty much anything at all, you’d probably like this doc!
From tailor houses to the runway, Alexander Mcqueen lived a varied and intense life. He’s no doubt a genius, and also no doubt a bit disturbed. This documentary is less about his troubles and more about his artistry and craft. Trust.A.BITCH and give it a whirl.

Jane, what a dream!! If you’ve ever been like wait, Jane Goodall, that sounds like high school…..and then wanted to revisit the topic, this is a doc for you. We learn a bit about her upbringing and her attraction to monkeys (don’t be rude), which started at a young age. We head to the forest where it all began. We take a journey through her years of research and get to know this fascinating human. She’s full of empathy and charisma and it’s a treat to watch.
Trust a bitch and get educated.

Nora Ephron’s doc is a MUST WATCH. What a fucking legend.
She’s the gal who wrote all of your favorite 90’s romcoms like Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally. On top of that, she is a modern-day bad biddy with no shame in telling people how it is. This doc takes us through her career and life at large.
She’s just a queen and I really recommend it okay????

To all my Jewish kin, this is for you.
Well actually to anyone with a critical mother, this is for you!
MILDRED, yes really, I said Mildred, the filmmaker’s mother, is on a scale of 1-10 the bitchtiest Jewish mothers I’ve ever witnessed. She’s funny as hell (most of the time), but more like that scary aunt you ran from whenever she came close to you as a kid. One theme throughout the movie is Mildred’s constant and uncalled for stance on Gayle, her daughter’s, appearance. According to Mildred, Gayle would be swept off her feet if she would get ‘bigger tits and a nose job.’ Fair, no? No! Gayle is 50 years old.
Though funny and perhaps somewhat endearing, Mildred is actually pretty abusive and wildly unsympathetic. This film explores the ever-challenging mother-daughter relationship, and the long lasting bond we’re all searching for.
It’s a bit drawn out but all in all, a fairly uplifting and insightful piece!

Remember that time Snoop Dog changed his name to “Snoop Lion?” Me either - BUT, this documentary explores that time in his life and it’s everything you’d imagine. He heads to Jamaica and is re-born if you will.
He’s obviously incredibly interesting and has a great sense of humor - most of all though, Mr Lion has a HUGE HEART and a real sense of morality which is cute as hell.
Light up and enjoy

This doc takes place during Maria’s year-long suspension. We unearth exactly what happened, how she and her team is handling it, and what she’s doing to get back into the game.
We see a much more down-to-earth Maria basically just living her life post suspension. We hear about her upbringing, her rise, her fall, and her ultimate come back.
I’m incredibly fascinated by people who have achieved immense success, whether athletically, in business, personally whatever. This doc gives us a glimpse into the mind of a fearless athlete - one who’s been a hot topic not only for her beauty but also for her incredible strength and passion.
Who cares if you hate Maria - do you really know her?

This funky / homeless lady takes us into her world as the star of a Santa Monica public laundromat. Did you just say laundromat? I DID SWEETIE I DID.
You sort of think this doc is going to be a tale of a strange older lady with a funny disposition but, no. It’s not about that. Okay cool.
Though she repeatedly does NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT, we learn she had children and a former family decades ago. Through a series of tense interviews, we find out she abandoned them and took to the streets without a trace. She ended up at this laundromat and became a staple amongst customers for her insatiable energy and work ethic.
Zach Galifianakis makes an interesting appearance as sort of her fun-loving son or something. He eventually puts her up in her own apartment near the laundromat which is like an adorable dream come true for Queen Mimi.
Long story short - if you like autobiographical docs this is an interesting watch for sure.

This doc is about the very famous and very cool Gloria Steinem. I won’t even get on my preach-daddy-horse to all the latest n greatest ever-modern, ever-ineffective “activists” of today because GUESS WHAT, I’m behind a computer and it’s much more fun to do in real life ;)
Back to Gloria and my stupendous review. Despite being capable, brilliant, and selfless, Gloria couldn’t get her foot in the door of the working world. As with many smart and striking women at the time, no one in business took her seriously.
This doc explores her path into journalism and the many twists and turns that led her to ultimate iconhood. Which, by the way, was never not once even a little her intention. BECUASE BACK TO THE TOP, she was a pure activist. There to serve the mission and nothing else. Very inspiring.

This is a fun one. This dude is - for all intents and purposes - the Black Godfather!! He makes moves and strikes deals, manipulating and coaching the most powerful people in the world. Everyone from musicians to politicians have corresponded with Clarence and it’s super entertaining to learn about. He’s like a business man and a manager and a professor all in one. He mixes with everyone we wish we knew and you’ll enjoy watching his story unfold.
I watched this a few years ago and my recall has been washed away by la vodka so, that’s all I got.
You’ll like this one trusttt me
Don’t let the thumbnail fool you - this isn’t a doc about shooting up - though actually I guess technically it is???? Our main (and dare I say sexy as fuck) star goes on a deep and unnerving journey through the world of performance enhancing drugs. I guess if we’re going for straight A’s around accuracy it is a doc about shooting up! I also just googled it and google calls it a geo-political thriller - I’ll just stop writing now.
OKAY FINE I WON’T YOU’RE SEW KEWT <3. This documents Russia’s meticulous and hella successful role in winning a ton of medals at the 2008 Olympics.
Bryan Fogel, an avid cyclist and the star of this film, wants to understand not only doping in cycling but doping at large. Somehow or another he gets in touch with the mad scientist responsible for the scandal that is the 2008 olympics.
The doctor, Grigory Rodchenkoy, is just as much as a star as Bryan. God knows why but Grigory agrees to explain in great detail the steps he and his team went through to ensure success at the games. He is beyond hysterical and endearing but sadly has to go into hiding for all of his wrong doings - poor boy.
Whatever I can’t even sum it up but basically, as google says, it’s a geo-political THRILLER you won’t want to stop watching. It’s also really well shot and won some shit.
Does this image not say it all?
Kusama - the legendary artist, sculptor, and overall bad-ass biddy, is the star of this autobiographical doc.
We learn about her troubled upbringing and venture into the arts. She was fearless, a little odd, and extremely forward thinking. She bulldozed a male-dominated industry only to be pushed aside and not taken seriously.
Through the twists and turns of her life, we see a troubled and beautiful mind make her way through life via art. Amazingly, we see that many of the then-famous male artists like Warhol, lightly stole from Kusama’s exhibits and re-created them as their own. Long sigh.
Any who, she’s a treat to watch - albeit a little strange - but you’ll enjoy I promise.
For anyone interested in ayahuasca, depression, mental illness, Peruvian shamans etc, this is your documentary.
James Freeman was hit hard by depression in his early twenty’s. He goes through all Western treatments available and ultimately finds no relief from his personal mental hell. We pick up around his last ditch effort to get well. He gives himself an ultimatum: if he isn’t feeling better in the next 10 months, taking his life is okay for he’s give it his all.
Again, having exhausted all western practices, James gives the ancient practices a run for their money. He goes to Peru to find the perfect Shaman who will hopefully resolve his mind’s turmoil. He films his journey the entire time and it’s absolutely insane.
Long story short, James connects with a Shaman that puts him on a strict 2 month cleanse in preparation for his healing. From there, he’s sequestered for I believe 120 days eating and drinking nothing but plants hand picked by his leader. Through a series of intense dreams, purging, hallucinations and much more, James comes out the other end a changed man.
Though brutal at times, you’re left inspired and happy for our dear friend James!
This a pretty well-known docu so I’m so sorry to stray from my highly intellectual fairly underground selections thus far!
Jonathan Gold - probably one of the most influential food critics to date is our leading man here. He also passed this year so in honor of him, I’ll put my best writing foot forward.
This is a true autobiographical play looking into the life and career of Mr. Gold. It’s also a very real ode to the city he loves most - Los Angeles! As his followers know very well, he doesn’t live that LA life outsiders are accustom to famous people living. He’s an authentic representation of what LA and the food scene is all about. That is, DIVERSITY. Who the fuck knew. Certainly not a little jew from the valley let me tell you.
If you like FOOD, history, and pretty much anything - you’ll definitely enjoy this.
Okay so gotta admit I almost turned this off at first. Tig’s tone of voice KILLLLLLED ME. But, she is a queen so trust a motherfucking bitch and WATCH IT ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
Tig is an old-school comic with a heart of gold. In the span of a week, (fact check cuz you know I ain’t), her mother dies and she finds out she has breast cancer.
In a now famous stand up performance, this doc picks up right after announcing al of this, to the audience.
Somehow this doc keeps it all fairly light hearted and authentic. It’s a bit of a tear jerker but nothing too crazy - I highly recommend. Oh AND there’s a cute love story in there. <3 kewt
Well this was a real JOURNEY if you will. I watched this manyyy years ago but it’s so special and such a beautiful story with a glorious happy ending. The title reveals it all but this is the story of a set of identical twins from South Korea who never knew the other existed.
The actual happening is beyond - a friend sends one of the sisters a clip of the other sister thinking it’s the first sister. The sister who’s not in the clip reaches out to clip-girl via Facebook without knowing the incredible opening that is about to happen for the both of them.
Their journey is deep and beautiful and absolutely worth your time.
Well this is a fucking wacko underground world you definitely don’t need to know about but, if you’re so inclined, I’d definitely watch it!
It sort of like a true crime doc where you’re in the middle of some type of wild discovery.
They’re taking you to an underground erotic and highly corrupt world of “tickling,” whereby people tickle one another. Innocent sounding I know, but there’s some twisted people running the operation and leaving the participants royally fucked should they want to leave the business.
It’s really bizarre and you can’t stop watching. Don’t fret, HBO came out with a Tickled 2 to recap what happened since production wrapped on Tickled 1 so you’re all in the loop.
I’m running late to my sound bath so gotta go but check it out k??
Okay sewww I watched this a minute ago and didn’t take too many notes BUT this doc is cool.
Rather than keeping Diana elusive and out of reach, this doc digs right in. Her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry (in case you forgot), walk us through their memories and favorite aspects of their mom. Her sense of humor is what stuck with me. She was hysterical and most importantly, the opposite of a rigid royal bitch. She was graceful and smart, and all the things, but again, she seemed to be just like us!
I’m sure you’ve seen a bunch of Diana stuff but this was one that felt a little more personal in my humble opinion.
The doc follows a high school step team as they make their way to the top competition in their area.
The school is in a generally poorer class area with varying levels of poverty and struggles. The film focuses on a few of the older girls and their personal stories. One gal’s mom is the PUREST FORM of a helicopter mom, demanding a presence on the team at each and every practice. Another girl’s mom won’t even leave the house for a parent-teacher conference even though her daughter begs.
We see their very real struggle to hone their routine in order to win. Per usual, there are highs, lows, and lots of feels - though I saw this in air it was a real treat.
review coming soon
Well I know you’ll be watching this one so I won’t spend more than my usual 3 minutes crafting a subpar review but sad to say, this wasn’t a favorite. It was long and drawn out and as we know, has no happy ending.
You don’t learn much in terms of new information but you do start to consider the impact the show had on his life. He was on the road 250 days a year for over a decade - not great for any sane person let alone someone struggling with mental health issues. He is clearly incredibly smart, interesting, and well-intentioned. But again, this is all what we already knew.
I don’t why I’m such a hater but I truly can’t get behind it! Check it out and report back.
This is a super informative and touching documentary that I watched back in 2016 so forgive me for the highly vague review.
Coy felt she was a girl from a super young age and luckily landed in a welcoming family. She was accepted and treated as she requested - like a girl. Unfortunately, her elementary school wasn’t onboard with Coy’s transition and banned her from using the little girl’s bathroom. Her family took the school to court and this doc walks us through it all.
We get a glimpse into the life of those many families struggling with this now common occurrence.
hi
