Queen Mimi

This funky / homeless lady takes us into her world as the star of a Santa Monica public laundromat. Did you just say laundromat? I DID SWEETIE I DID.

You sort of think this doc is going to be a tale of a strange older lady with a funny disposition but, no. It’s not about that. Okay cool.

Though she repeatedly does NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT, we learn she had children and a former family decades ago. Through a series of tense interviews, we find out she abandoned them and took to the streets without a trace. She ended up at this laundromat and became a staple amongst customers for her insatiable energy and work ethic.

Zach Galifianakis makes an interesting appearance as sort of her fun-loving son or something. He eventually puts her up in her own apartment near the laundromat which is like an adorable dream come true for Queen Mimi.

Long story short - if you like autobiographical docs this is an interesting watch for sure.
