Where to start.
This is a pretty dark documentary - the premise: a sister’s journey into the storage unit that holds all of her deceased sisters things.
Hope Litoff’s sister was a well-respected artist and creator throughout Manhattan. In addition, she was severely impacted by mental illness and in 2014, she ended her life.
When she passed - all of her art, belongings, diary entries and everything else - were boxed up and put into a storage unit. Until now, no one was ready to deal with it.
This is a look back at Ruth’s complicated life full of highs, lows, and a fuck ton of medication. One shot that sticks with me is of the table of medications Ruth took over the years. As the thumbnail for this review, you’ll get the idea but it is absolutely insane. Tantalized by it all and a former addict herself, Hope loses her grip on her own sobriety and falls off the wagon in reliving the memories.
While a somber subject matter, this documentary is a vivid look at the world of mental illness, art, NYC, and family. Buckle up for some tears!
